This is a question that comes up often with both buyers and sellers - How do I determine the square footage of a house? There are different ways homes are measured that include total square footage as well as finished square footage. In most markets there are two ways that homes have square footage measured by - one is the county records listing and the other is appraiser measurements. I see this a lot when the county records show one thing and the appraiser measurement shows a different one. A simple way to get the most accurate measurement if you are not sure is to have a certified appraiser come to your home and do a new measurement. It does not cost a lot but also keep in mind that appraisers are very busy in most real estate markets so give yourself ample time to get one to your house.
